Location. The all inclusive Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Retreat is located in at Pakhuis Pass, 45 kilometres from Clanwilliam, South Africa. Lamberts Bay is 100 kilometres from the reserve.
Hotel Features. Set in a 7,500 hectare wildlife and nature reserve, Bushmans Kloof is a luxury boutique retreat spread over several buildings and surrounded by botanical, herb, and flower gardens host to a wealth of rare animals and plants. The main lodge houses The Homestead with its lounges, wine cellar, DVD library, the Trading Post gift shop, and the Heritage Centre displaying Bushman artefacts. There are three infinity pools and one indoor pool, a fitness centre, and a spa and outdoor massage area.
Bushmans Kloof offers a range of dining options. The al fresco Embers Restaurant serves traditional South African dishes, and the formal Homestead Restaurant serves international dishes and features a terrace area. Makana serves brunch and high tea, and offers river views. The all inclusive rate incorporates continental breakfast, buffet lunch, high tea, dinner, snacks, and afternoon coffee and cakes.
A conference room is available onsite, with a capacity for up to 32 persons.
The reserve offers Early morning rock art excursions and evening nature drives with sundowner drinks and snacks. Mountain biking, fly fishing, canoeing, archery, hiking, croquet, and bird watching are all available on site.
Guestrooms. Set in cottages and the original Manor House, the 16 guestrooms feature a fusion of African and European design. All extend to patios and include wireless Internet, minibars, direct dial phones, coffee and tea facilities, and safes. Bathrooms include separate tubs and showers, bathrobes, and hair dryers.
Expert Tip. Wupperthal, located 100 kilometres from the hotel, is a 19th century mission station surrounded by rugged landscape amid the Cederberg Mountains. Today, the original village consists of thatched cottages, and a church.

From Cape Town International Airport (CPT):
Distance to the Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Retreat is 270 kilometres, approximately 210 minutes drive.
Getting there. Return road transfers from Cape Town to the hotel cost 6500 ZAR per vehicle (maximum 7 persons); one way journeys cost 3250 ZAR. Vehicles depart from Cape Town no later than 3 p.m. and from Bushmans Kloof no earlier than 10 a.m., and surcharges will apply outside those times. Private air charters are available, with prices given on request. A taxi from the airport costs approximately 6,500 ZAR return.
Getting around. A car is advisable for exploring the surrounding area.
Driving directions. From Cape Town, head onto the N1.
Before Century City/Ratanga Junction, take the N7 off ramp towards Malmesbury.
Continue past Malmesbury, towards Mooreesburg, Piketberg and Citrusdal, and enter the Olifants River Valley.
Pass the Clanwilliam Dam and turn right onto the R364 to Lamberts Bay/Clanwilliam.
At the T junction, turn right into Clanwilliam.
On entering the town, a petrol station is located on the left hand side of the road. It is advisable to fill up at this point and reduce tyre pressure. No mobile reception is available beyond this point.
Continue straight on the R364 towards Wupperthal and Calvinia and cross a bridge to reach a gravel road.
Continue along gravel road for approximately 34 kilometres over the Pakhuis Pass.
Cross a low bridge over the Brandewyns River.
Continue past a sign on the left to Travellers Rest JJL Strauss.
After approximately a kilometre, turn right at Bushmans Kloof Gate.
Continue straight onto a concrete road, crossing a small bridge below the dam wall.
Continue towards the lodge, parking next to the blue gum trees.
