Location. The Sundance Resort is located in Provo, Utah. The property is adjacent to Mount Timpanogos and the Sundance Ski Area. Downtown Provo is less than 18 miles away. The world famous Sundance Film Festival is held 38 miles away in Park City each January.
Features. Founded by actor Robert Redford, the Sundance Resort is set amid a 6,000 acre nature preserve. In keeping with its eco friendly ethos, common buildings and individual mountain cottages blend in with the landscape. Green building features include salvaged lumber, decking made from milk jugs and energy efficient heat and lighting, powered in part by the wind. A staff naturalist oversees the resorts environmental projects, including restoring the habitat of the mountain, a major draw for visitors. The mountain base provides 450 acres of seasonal downhill skiing and miles of cross country and snowshoe trails. In the summer, the trails come to life with hiking, biking and horseback riding. At the heart of the resort, the Village Building houses a general store, deli, a bar and two restaurants. Notably, the Owl Bar features the 1890s rosewood bar frequented by Butch Cassidys Hole in the Wall Gang. Considered one of Utahs best restaurants, the Tree Room serves dinner only, including a tasting menu that changes with the season. The neighboring Foundry Grill serves pastas, sandwiches and steak in a casual setting. Influenced by the Lakota, the treatments at the Spa at Sundance feature earthy ingredients such as cornmeal, orange blossoms and sage.
Guestrooms. Mirroring its rugged surroundings, guestroom decor features Native American art and hand hewn wood and stone furnishings. Larger rooms and suites offer gas fireplaces. Bathrooms include natural Aveda toiletries. Bottled water, weekday newspapers and high speed Internet access are complimentary Select accommodations offer kitchenettes with two burner stoves, refrigerators and microwaves.
Expert Tip. The name Sundance has become synonymous with creativity as directors converge in nearby Park City to screen independent films. This spirit continues year round at the resort, where guests can visit the Art Shack to take classes in pottery, painting, drawing or jewelry making.
