Getting there. High speed trains and the regional S Bahn run between the airport railway station and Cologne Hauptbahnhof (central station) every 30 minutes. The fare for a single ticket is 2.10 EUR, and the journey time is 18 minutes. The number 170 bus runs to the Hauptbahnhof and Cologne city centre five times an hour. The fare is 5 EUR for a single ticket. Taxis wait outside Terminals 1 and 2, and cost about 25 EUR to central Cologne and 40 EUR to Bonn. Prices are all subject to change.
Getting around. The centre of Cologne can be easily explored by foot. Schildergasse, Hohe Strasse, and Breite Strasse are pedestrianised and most main attractions are located around the Altstadt, on the left bank of the Rhine. A transferable ticket (VRS) entitles travellers to use all transport facilities, including the underground, buses, trams, and RB (RegionalBahn), RE (RegionalExpress), and S (S Bahn) trains. Train only tickets can also be purchased. Both types of tickets can be purchased from vending machines at the citys train stations. Only VRS tickets can be bought from tram, bus, and underground stops.
