Distance to Hotel do Carmo is 20 kilometres, approximately 15 minutes drive.
Getting there Madeira Airport is located just outside the town of Santa Cruz. The islands main city, Funchal, is a 15 minute drive to the southwest on the R101 roadway, which runs near the coast. Buses run between the airport and Funchal about every two hours; the one way fare is 2.10 EUR. Aerobus shuttle service is also available for a 4 EUR fee. Taxis are available 24 hours a day for transport to locations around the island. The approximate fare from the airport to Funchal is 20 EUR, plus a surcharge for luggage or night time driving. Prices are subject to change.
Getting around.Funchal is criss crossed by a reliable and inexpensive bus service. Outside Funchal, EU funded highways, some of them tunnelled through volcanic bluffs, have further improved accessibility. To reach more remote areas a car is necessary. Cycling (not allowed along the canals) is possible, but gradients are steep and roads are often narrow not to mention spattered by waterfalls between Porto Moniz and Seixal.
