Getting there. Both airport terminals are connected to the metro system, which runs to the city centre. Single tickets cost about 1 TRY. The Havas Airport bus departs every 30 minutes for the main bus terminal and Taksim Square, in central Istanbul. Journey time is about 30 minutes. Bus number 96 runs between the airport and the city centre, and a shuttle bus runs to the port. Taxis wait outside Arrivals; fixed prices are in place and the fare to the city centre should be about 20 TRY 30 TRY. At night, there is a 50 percent surcharge. Prices are all subject to change.
Getting around. Istanbuls extensive public transport system includes buses, metros (underground trains), trains, trams, sea buses, and ferries. Tickets can be purchased from main stops, stations, or kiosks prior to boarding. Istanbuls yellow taxis are reasonably priced, but travellers should ensure the meter is used. A cheaper alternative is to use a dolmus (minibus or shared taxi). Driving is not advised for visitors.
