Expert Tip. Disliking the palace on Palentine Hill, the Emperor Hadrian had a villa constructed in Tivoli Terme in the second century. Consisting of 30 buildings, the complex covered one square kilometre. In the 16th century, much of the marble was used to construct the equally elaborate Villa DEste.

Driving Directions:
From Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO):
Distance to the Grand Hotel Duca DEste is 60 kilometres, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes drive.

Getting there. The Leonardo Express runs between the airport and the Termini train station in the city centre every 30 minutes. The journey time is about 35 minutes and single tickets cost 9.50 EUR. The Terravision shuttle bus runs between the airport and Termini station. Line B underground trains run from Termini railway station. Change at Ponte Mammolo station for buses running to Tivoli via Tiburtina. Buses depart every 10 15 minutes and stop in front of the hotel. Trains run from Tiburtina station to Tivoli Terme station. Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. Romes historic city centre is easy to explore on foot, as many attractions are located close together. The city has an efficient public transport system, including trams, buses, suburban trains, and metro (underground). Tickets can be purchased from tobacconists and ATAC ticket machines, and should be bought prior to boarding. Single tickets cost 1 EUR, and are valid for 75 minutes, covering one metro trip and unlimited bus travel. Driving in the city centre is not advised for visitors.

Driving directions. From the airport, follow the GRA (ring road).
Take Exit 13 onto Via Tiburtina in the direction of Tivoli.
Continue on for approximately 10 kilometres to find the Grand Hotel Duca DEste.
