Originally built as an exclusive island getaway for William Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan, this Victorian era resort is comprised of five buildings and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1978. Restoration during the 1980s established the resort as a historic hotel with modern amenities in unspoiled natural surroundings. The hotel consists of three main buildings surrounded by landscaped grounds in the center of the Jekyll Island Historic District. Period furnishings and ornate woodwork inside complement the atmosphere created by an exterior tower, bay windows, and verandas. Several boutiques and collectible shops now operate on site.
